Marty Pratt – Senior Engineer & Co-Founder
With over 25 years in heavy earth-moving and precision engineering, Marty Pratt co-founded Chase Surface Engineering to raise the bar in quality, speed, and reliability. His background includes Caterpillar powertrain overhauls, failure analysis, and high-precision machining — all backed by a reputation for getting it right the first time.
Starting with a Cert III in Fitting and Turning and a demanding apprenticeship at Hastings Deering, Marty built his skillset from the ground up. He’s led rebuild teams, specialised in Caterpillar transmissions, and worked alongside OEM engineers conducting failure investigations and technical reporting.
Marty’s machining capabilities are unmatched. He’s turned diameters from 5mm to 900mm and lengths up to 33.5m. He’s also mastered CNC systems (Siemens, Mazak), rotary grinding, arc spray, and laser cladding — making him a rare asset across manual and automated operations.
What sets Marty apart is his ability to spot faults others miss. This sharp eye protects customers from costly downtime and ensures components are restored to — or beyond — OEM standard. He leads Chase with a hands-on, customer-first mindset, ensuring fast turnarounds without cutting corners.
Marty’s commitment to quality and innovation continues to shape Chase Surface Engineering as a go-to partner in the industry. When your machinery can’t afford mistakes, he’s the one you want behind the lathe — and a consultant to your business.
